A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall – a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led – goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.
Total Recall was poorly re-made. There were many things wrong in the movie. It was odd not hearing Arnold’s accent in the movie, which is not technically a bad thing, but the person whom they replaced him with was a bad decision. Colin Farrel cannot act. Through out the movie, there weren’t any expressions on his face. He seemed to be devoid of all emotion and feeling.
The ‘synthetics’ looked like a strange amalgamation of Storm Troopers and Droids from Star Wars and also I-Robot. I was waiting for one of them to say ‘Roger Roger.’ The movements of the synthetics were very similar to that of the robot in I Robot. This is Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman’s first movie which they have worked on together which is not an Underworld movie. It could also be for the same reason that Kate’s character looks a lot like Vampire Warrior Selene. Her action sequences also remind me of that. One MAJOR problem i had with her character was that, she just pops up everywhere. By the time Hausser travels from one floor to the other, she is there already shooting at him. Does she have a transporter or something?
In the scene where Hausser meets Matthias and accesses his memory, how do the synthetics and all others come in second? They didn’t even know the location of Matthias. In the main Colony area, why are some stuff written in Russian and others in Chinese, and why are all the people Chinese? did China finally take over?
In the last few scenes, when Hausser escapes Matthias’ place, he wears a mask which looks like the one worn by Ra’s Al Ghul in the final scenes of Batman Begins. And when they are in The Fall, he sets the timer fot the bomb to 15 minutes. Later when he checks, it 9 minutes remaining. How does he do so much in just 9 minutes. I’m sure that the time he took was much more than 9 minutes. What I found strange was that, Hausser can avoid being shot by bullets but not being injured by a knife. WHY DOESN’T KATE’S CHARACTER DIE? Is she a vampire like I mentioned before? We all assume she perishes in the fall of ‘The Fall’ after the explosion, then how does she get back to land and again try to kill Hausser? And also what’s with people calling Hausser ‘sir’?
This movie had many inconsistencies. Mars wasn’t involved. My favourite line from the 1990 one- ‘Get your ass to mars‘ wasn’t there. On the bright side, the background score was very good, It was a nice mix of electronic beats. I also like the music piece played by Colin in the movie. I felt that the movie was mindless action. I thought it felt a little like The Bourne series.
On the whole the movie was disappointing.
